The Easter tradition in my family is simple. We watch a movie together and we eat chocolate eggs. But no good movies were playing in theaters (Fast Five doesn't come out for another week), so I got the call this morning. Mom put the entirety of the movie decision making process squarely on my shoulders. I knew I needed to go big, or go home.
I listened to my friends. I listened to my kids at school. And I listened to my heart.
I chose "How to Train Your Dragon"
It's awesome. (98% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes? That's crazy.)
How to Train Your Dragon was funny, sweet and let me walk away with my dignity in tact. It's a totally different experience than the Pixar movies. I swear the first ten minutes of "Up" and the last ten minutes of "Toy Story 3" were sponsored by Kleenex to boost their sales. I can almost make it to the end of "Monsters Inc", but then Boo says "Kitty!" and I'm gone.
Here's a great Deadspin article about this phenomenon.
(Completely hilarious but NSFW)
Fun Fact: The appearance and personality of Toothless (The titular Dragon) was inspired by cats, dogs, and horses.
Whoa.
I guess Hobbes liked the movie, too.
