The "We Will Miss You" Wall

February 2, 2012

Some teachers set up this giant memorial wall so kids could write something about Officer Chapin.
Thank goodness the wall can fit so many kids at once.
It looked like this all day long.  Kids were out at the wall during breaks, before school, after school, and at lunch.
It's probably good that the kids have another outlet for their feelings during this difficult time.

A professor in college talked about how everyone has different reactions to grief.  Whatever feelings you have are ok.  People have different reactions to these kinds of events.
My reaction involves some type of avoidance, but that doesn't sound right even as a type the words.

There's only so much time you can spend processing grief before you are exhausted.  Of course you will still feel sad, but the planet can't grind to halt, even if you feel like it should.
Someone has to try and keep some kind of normalcy.

I'm trying to make sure the world keeps spinning.

But we're all pretty sad.
