Day 358 - Meditations On Serenity

September 30, 2011

It's so easy to get caught up in other people's energy.  Sometimes, that's great.  You can get swept up in the excitement and fun of an event when you wouldn't have felt that way on your own.

More often, it seems like stress and worry comes through.  It can be difficult to avoid taking in these emotions too.

This morning, I was calm.  Serene.
I spent my commute looking at this:
A peaceful feeling washed over me.  I carried this feeling with me as I arrived at my room.  As the morning progressed, I felt my calm little bubble shaken by the other energies around me.  In a flash, I was worrying about nothing and stressing over things I couldn't control.  And just as quick as it came, I closed the door, put on soothing music, and those negative feelings left.  I need to be more mindful and protective of my calm.

Wow, I sound like a hippie.

Mom made ribs for dinner.
When work runs late, I am frequently stopping at my folks' house.  Which means I don't spend as much time in my apartment.  While my parents' house is definitely calm, I still feel like a guest.  I need to make an effort to get to my apartment during the week.  My apartment has become just a place to crash into bed when I'm exhausted.  Since I'm never there to make a mess, why do I feel like I'm cleaning it all the time?

Aussie Rules Football Grand Final
When I spend time at my place, I discover things like this.  This was being broadcast live on ESPN8 (The Ocho).  Aussie Rules Football is awesome and the game was back and forth the whole way.  The fans were passionate and that energy translated on to the pitch.  With no knowledge of either team, I could enjoy the pageantry and the weight of the game with a quiet detachment.
