Day 292 - Does This Song NEED An Accordion?

July 26, 2011

Billy Joel said that if you want to be a musician, you have to sit down with your instrument everyday and try to write some music.  Some days it will be easy, and you can write a whole song in 15 minutes.  Some days you can sit there for hours and never come up with anything to use.  So you never know what musical ideas that sound like crap when you write them could turn into gold later on.  Even on those days when you feel like you didn't accomplish anything, maybe you just planted the seeds for a hit.
Let's hope he was right.

My sleep schedule is completely wacked right now.  I'm going to bed at 3:00am and getting up at 10:00am.  There's nothing wrong with that except that daytime TV is horrible.  So I've been recording Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.  Both are fantastically entertaining.

Linkage:
Jimmy Fallon

And

As the host of a late night show, it's great that he laughs all the time.  And the Roots are so awesome.

Craig Ferguson
Craig's show is different.  He has notecards for every interview with pertinent information about his guest, and his first move is always to tear up the card and just talk to someone.  And he ends every interview by letting the guest choose between "Awkward Pause" or "Mouth Organ".  He is incredibly friendly.

  1. I love Craig Ferguson but I really wish he'd wear a kilt every once in a while.
